‘In Case You Missed It’ Highlights – 6/25

June 25, 2022
Just like that, June zipped on by. We hope everyone is having an exciting but relaxing summer. As we approach our nation’s Independence Day, we too celebrate the importance of independence and what that means when it comes to helping people with disabilities and medical conditions. In this edition of the ICYMI, we say goodbye to the Washington Reid Gallery in Culver City, while highlighting thought-provoking artwork from Momentum artists. Read on to learn more.

‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ Exhibit & Saying Goodbye to Washington Reid Gallery

After a two-year hiatus, Washington Reid Gallery held its final exhibit opening over the weekend. ‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ explores the emotions of grief, loss, memories and, ultimately, hope.

Artists, family and friends celebrated the bittersweet evening, as WRG has been home to creativity and artists making their mark for decades. Beautiful artwork and accompanying stories are available to view here.

We also encourage you to purchase the art, which can enrich your home or office for years to come. Proceeds benefit the artists.

The gallery, located in the heart of Culver City, will close on June 30. We are looking forward to the next chapter and hope you will stay tuned for our announcement of the future location!

Building on AACtion: Momentum Hosts Summer Program
Our summer program Momentum in AACtion is underway. We filled up both weeks of the workshop with the help of the Special Children’s League. They helped provide funding for families in need.

Speech therapy can be a crucial tool for children in their development. Augmented and alternative communication (AAC) devices, which can be low-tech or high-tech, are critical offerings of Momentum Pediatric Therapy Network. These devices and practices can develop initiation and vocabulary building for children. Watch below a video from Marvin to the Special Children’s League and their generosity.

Shoutout to True Pals: Momentum Thanks Groups Aligning with our Mission
Each year, the auxiliary groups that support Momentum come together to tour one of the program sites and have a joint meeting with the committee representatives from Special Children’s League and Psi Delta Sigma. This year, the amazing women of Special Children’s League Foothill Committee, South Bay Committee, Whittier Committee and Psi Delta Sigma, Inc. raised over $120,000 to support Momentum’s adult and pediatric programs. The ladies toured the Pediatric Clinic in Torrance and enjoyed their meeting and lunch at The Depot restaurant with a special lunch prepared by Chef Schafer.
