Ruby's Story

She joined Momentum as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in 1999. Since then, Ruby loves bringing joy to those supported by Momentum. Read Ruby’s story and learn how you can join her efforts to build a better life for people with disabilities.

Ruby’s brother convinced her she should join Momentum and become a DSP. He knew she could help provide a better quality of life for people. It was shortly after joining she began to truly understand people with disabilities–their big personalities, their likes and dislikes, their dreams and passions.

“I fell in love with the people we support. I like what I do and I’ve been here ever since,” Ruby said. “A lot of the people we support express themselves differently. We really get to know them.”

Momentum is full of stories of Direct Support Professionals finding a job, meeting the people supported, then realizing this is their life’s work; a career they’ve been looking for. Our DSPs are the heroes of the pandemic and remain so even today. The demands of their work are only equaled by the rewards. You can be a hero alongside them with your donation.

Like you, they know how important it is that everyone gets to live their best life. They help make that a reality for people with disabilities. “I know they need my help. They need me. I believe in God and I feel like this is what I was chosen to do—it makes me happy.”

The hundreds of adults our organization helps in their daily needs would not be possible without DSPs like Ruby. Their commitment to excellence helps lift up people with disabilities. Just this month, we honored dozens of DSPs marking their 10, 15, 20, 25 year anniversaries with us. That’s how passionate they are here. That’s how much connection they have made with the people we support. You can make that connection even stronger.

We promise you that we will continue to leverage every dollar you donate to provide supreme care to the hundreds of adults we support in their daily lives. Each dollar you donate this holiday season goes directly to change a life for the better.

We promise choice to the people who attend our day programming and reside in our independent living apartments throughout Southern California. Individuals with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism and other disabilities deserve your support. Children with developmental delays and their families. We are passionate about growing community and a sense of belonging. I’m grateful to have your trust in providing essential and exceptional care to these men and women, your neighbors and ours.

Make your gift to join our mission in advancing the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of adults and children with disabilities and medical conditions.

I know we can count on you.
