Pediatric Therapy Network merges into Momentum to create lifespan services for children and adults

July 1, 2021

For over 75 years, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles has provided services and resources to people with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. Earlier this year the organization changed its name to better reflect the array of services and choices it provides people across five counties in Southern California. The organization, now branded Momentum, announced Pediatric Therapy Network has merged into the non-profit.

“We have always remained dedicated to providing choices” Lori Anderson, Momentum President & CEO, said. “This is another opportunity for families to choose what best suits their needs. Merging PTN with Momentum allows the expansion of a lifespan of services. People we support, families, and our supporters can be assured this will only strengthen our organization’s ability to provide the unmatched care at every level. We look forward to helping more people live their best life.”

In 2020, after 25 years at the helm of PTN as the co-Founder and CEO, Terri Chew Nishimura told the PTN Board of Directors she would be retiring at the end of calendar year 2021. The Board conducted an extensive search and was thrilled to find a synergy with Momentum that allows PTN to continue their Early Head Start programming, as well as their internationally recognized sensory integration physical, occupational, and speech therapies for early child development at locations in Torrance and Long Beach.

“We found a kindred spirit in our partnership with Momentum and are aligned in our mission, vision, and passion, and both value innovation, quality of care, and community impact,” said Terri Chew Nishimura, co-founder of PTN. “This merger allows Pediatric Therapy Network to continue all current programs while offering services across the lifespan. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Momentum Pediatric Therapy Network as we share our innovative programs with a broader audience as children grow into adults.”

Momentum’s PTN services will continue to provide current services at its existing locations. With this merger, Momentum will bolster its involvement with clinical training, program development, research, and advocacy and extend it impact in supporting more than 6,500 children, adults, and families across 37 program and service sites across five counties in Southern California.

Momentum, formerly UCP of Los Angeles, has been providing services and resources for children and adults to maximize their independence for over 75 years. In 1945, a small group of dedicated parents and volunteers in Los Angeles united to provide home and community-based services for their children when no services of this kind existed. Today, the organization they founded and nurtured is known as Momentum and we remain true to our mission of advancing the independence, productivity and full citizenship of children and adults with disabilities and medical conditions. Momentum provides an array of individualized resources so children and adults can choose how they want to live their day-to-day lives.: https://www.momentum4all.org or Facebook page at facebook.com/momentum4all
