In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), non-profit organization, Momentum WORK, Inc., was presented with a proclamation from the Mayor and City Council of Santa Barbara on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. The Mayor, Cathy Murillo, awarded the organization’s Santa Barbara Harbor Crew for 29 years of service providing janitorial and trash maintenance for the city’s waterfront area. The Santa Barbara Harbor Crew provides employment and job coaching for 33 people with disabilities, part of Momentum WORK, Inc.’s Group Supported Employment Program.
Momentum WORK, Inc. is a Santa Barbara County disability service provider with a mission to increase workforce access for people with disabilities and to recognize the value that these workers add to America’s economy. The organization helps to integrate job seekers with disabilities into the local workforce through paid internships, independent job placement, work mentorship program, and group supported employment, which brings individuals with similar training needs together into work crews to fulfill public and private work contracts.
NDEAM, held each October, celebrates the many contributions of America’s workers with disabilities and promotes awareness about businesses that embrace diversity, accessibility, and inclusion in the workplace.
