Read Lucy's Story

A poet, an artist, and a fierce advocate, Lucy wants “to remain as independent as possible.”
You can be a strong voice of support with your donation today.

Upon meeting Lucy, you’ll see her independence at work. She lives at Hubbard, a Momentum-operated home providing around-the-clock care for residents.

It’s one of a dozen residential sites in the San Fernando Valley for people like Lucy. But she doesn’t want you to focus on her disability. That’s a footnote to who she is. “The way I talk and move is no different from anybody else,” she says. “The way people perceive me is what’s incorrect.” With the help of Momentum, Lucy is breaking that perception of “a disabled woman in a wheelchair.”

Over four decades at Momentum, Lucy has found her calling as an artist and a writer. She’s not shy about it, but she doesn’t brag about the pages upon pages she has filled with brilliantly beautiful, thought-provoking poetry. You can see she is far more than her disability. “I’ve seen her develop as far as her independence, taking the lead in helping her peers as a training consultant for those learning how to care and work with people with disabilities,” says Martine Alcidas Farve, a Momentum program manager. “She’s got a very strong voice. Lucy has really blossomed.” Lucy views the world as a place with immense opportunity. “With the world opening back up, having accessibility is so important to me.” We know that is important to you too. “I’m grateful for those who choose to donate this year to help build that independence,” she says.

Donate today and join us and Lucy in our programs and residential care that makes independence a top priority for their well-being. Everyone deserves to live their best life and you can help directly with a financial gift to Momentum.

Lori Anderson President and CEO of Momentum

Momentum is built on the idea of improvement and impact. We cultivate life-long relationships with the people we support and their families. Having a child with a disability or medical condition is complex and leaves many families looking for support and resources. Momentum is here to be part of that solution, to give comfort to families navigating the difficulties of caring for a child or loved one with disabilities. You will be donating to an organization that knows how to make your dollar count. You can feel good knowing you chose to make an everlasting impact on children like Adrian and Angel, and so many others like them who deserve the best life, a future without barriers. We ask you to consider joining us in that mission and we thank you for wanting to make the world a better place. Let’s do this together. Let’s do it for the children and adults we serve.
