‘In Case You Missed It’ Highlights – 7/17

‘In Case You Missed It’ Highlights – 7/17

July 17, 2022
July is a time to celebrate independence. From our country’s birthday to disability Pride, the meaning of the word independence has a degree of difference for everyone. This last week, we launched our summer campaign, highlighting what independence means to our organization. Please read on to learn how you can support our mission of bringing independence to children, adults with disabilities and their families who love and support them. We are also counting down until the return of Camp Escapades in August. While registration is closed, you can still donate or become a sponsor when you email us here. Every dollar helps a child experience a summer camp that is inclusive of everyone’s needs.

Momentum Refresh Hits the Beach

The Momentum Refresh vehicle is currently joining the people we support for outings and will be available for the public in the coming months. People supported by Momentum ventured out for a beach day at Will Rogers State Beach, where they had access to a reliable, accessible and dignified restroom option.

As soon as we lock in our first public event, we will alert you to come check out Momentum Refresh, a truly innovative design for meeting the needs of people with disabilities, including children, veterans, and adults.

Committing to Independence: Momentum Launches Summer Donation Drive

We’ve launched our summer campaign, championing independence and how critical it is to the people we support.

This is your chance to make a positive impact on the lives of people seeking greater independence and inclusion. Your gift will allow Momentum to continue to provide life-changing therapies, programs, and resources that support children, adults, and their families as they achieve greater independence and access to their communities.

We ask you to contribute to our mission of advancing the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of children and adults with disabilities and medical conditions. Together, we provide a lifespan of support for those who deserve to be part of the community in which they live.

Ready to Roll: Devon Stern Golf Tournament
We thank everyone who contributed to the return of the Momentum Devon Stern Golf Tournament. We can’t wait to tee off today for a great cause at Los Robles Golf Course.

Founded in 1999, the Devon Stern Golf Tournament offers a fun-filled, casual ambiance that attracts an elite crowd of entertainment professionals. Proceeds from the event benefit Momentum WORK, Inc. and the Devon Stern Children’s Endowment at Momentum to provide care to children with disabilities, ensuring they will always have access to the ongoing, dignified care they need.

We’ll have pictures to share from the event in the next edition of Momentum’s ICYMI.

News Story of the Week: A Bill of Rights for Passengers with Disabilities

The U.S. Department of Transportation on Friday announced its first bill of rights for travelers with disabilities, the Washington Post reported this week.

The document does not establish any policy. It is a summary meant to help travelers “understand and assert their rights” under the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) and ensure the airlines and airports uphold them. The law, passed in 1986 under President Ronald Reagan, made it illegal for airlines to discriminate against passengers because of their disabilities. It applies to all flights to, from and within the United States.
