The wonderful students of ArtCenter College of Design had a different kind of learning experience when they trooped down to our Torrance clinic last week. The Product Design class of Professor Jini Zopf observed some of the children we support in our Leaps and Bounds and Early Head Start classes, looking out for ideas and insights that can help them design products under the theme “Play for Communication.”
The students also learned about some of the challenges that children with disabilities and medical conditions deal with everyday, from maintaining balance while playing to effectively communicating what they need or want. For these ArtCenter students, the experience served not just as an eye-opener to how different people’s realities are, but also as an inspiration to design products that promote inclusion and accessibility.
Thank you, Jini and to your promising product design class, for visiting Momentum! We look forward to the designs you’ll be creating.
