Highlighting Momentum’s Outreach Efforts

At Momentum, we love to share with the community our mission and how it helps improve the lives of those we support. Hosting more events has allowed us the opportunity to speak with dozens of people who want to learn more about our work and get involved.

Celebrating a Lasting Friendship

For decades, the Special Children’s League South Bay Committee has stood by our side. They go above and beyond in supporting Momentum and other fantastic charities as they work to lift the lives and spirits of individuals with disabilities. “For 60 years of support, they have donated more than $1.9 million to our organization,” said Momentum Chief Operating Officer Amy Simons. “We are in awe of their efforts and remain grateful for their continued friendship and dedication to our mission.” Learn more about their legacy here.

Momentum’s Board Chair Dr. JJ Levenstein joined the Women in Action group to share the importance of early intervention and reading within the home. Children who are read to at least three times a week by a family member are almost twice as likely to score in the top 25% in reading compared to children who are read to less than three times a week. “Your mission to assure everyone lives their best life is contagious and we are looking forward to our new partnership. Adults and kids of all abilities can live incredible lives because of people like you,” said Lisa Schachtel Kodimer. The women wrote sweet notes and attached them to cuddly plush animals. In a few weeks, they will come visit and deliver these items to the children we support.
Easter Basket Gift Exchange

A BIG thank you to Jackie Chang, the National Junior Honor Society, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Michaels, and ACE Hardware for providing these wonderful gifts to all of the folks at our homes in Thousand Oaks. You made this possible!

Gifts included arts and crafts kits, music CDs, cups, Dodgers and Rams t-shirts and hats, stuffed animals, toys, decoration kits and more cool stuff! Everyone enjoyed their gifts and had a fun time.
National Charity Leagues, Hermosa Beach

Momentum was invited to make a brief presentation about the transition from PTN to Momentum Pediatric Therapy Network and the opportunities for the National Charity League to once again volunteer in-person at Momentum programs. We’re grateful to all who share their time to support our organization. Thank you!
Autism Awareness Resource Fair

We hosted a table at the Exceptional Family Member Program’s (EFMP) Autism Awareness Resource Fair at the Schriever Space Center, the home of the United States Space Force. The EFMP provides a full range of support services and programs for active-duty personnel, their families and veterans. The military is committed to providing services for any family member in need of assistance with a disability or a medical condition. Over 15 local service providers attended the fair and shared the programs with attendees.

Occupational Therapist Month Continues

April is Occupational Therapy Month. We have incredibly talented and kind occupational therapists. We are highlighting our staff not only this month, but throughout the year with “Therapist Thursdays.” Please stay tuned on our social media as we continue to post Q&A’s. Of the many questions we asked, we wanted to hear from them what is the most rewarding part of being an occupational therapist.

Rebecca Wall

“Seeing your clients smile and feel proud of themselves on a task that used to be challenging for them in previous months and seeing their confidence soar.”

Karen Rodriguez

“One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is empowering parents through education on occupational therapy, particularly in sensory processing. It is so rewarding to see a client’s internal engine adjust right before your eyes through the application of sensory strategies.” Read her answers here.

Always Learning: Momentum Wraps Up Training Series

Our organization embraces the opportunity to learn more. Over the past few months, our entire staff has taken part in a virtual training series titled Empowering Potential. Thanks to Megan Henry, Director of Training, and Santa Perez, a renowned author of a book on her experiences with CP in “Sitting at Eye Level,” who helped guide our organization in a number of areas to improve how we support people with disabilities and medical conditions. We look forward to our next opportunity to workshop together.
