‘In Case You Missed It’ Highlights – 3/18

March 18, 2023
This time last week, hundreds of attendees at the Abilities Expo in Los Angeles stopped by the Momentum booth to learn more about the life-changing impact we have on children and adults. We’re grateful to have been part of a truly uplifting weekend. Read on to see and learn more about the event. Plus, don’t forget to purchase your tickets and tell family and friends about our Momentum Celebrates event at the end of April. We hope you’ll join us for an energized night of fun that benefits a great cause.

Momentum Returns to Abilities Expo in Los Angeles
The Abilities Expo in Los Angeles provided the perfect space to engage with the community as Momentum expanded its impact this year with two Refresh vehicles. While one remained available for tours, the other offered a truly accessible restroom for use by dozens of attendees each day. Over and over again, we heard from people about how excited they were to have the vehicle on-site. It afforded them peace of mind and restroom equity, allowing them to enjoy the Expo without worry or having to leave prematurely before seeing all the innovative ideas and services.

We also shared our array of services with those who stopped by our booth. From pediatric to adult programming, including adaptive tools and creative artwork, staff and volunteers made connections with families and engaged other organizations impressed with Momentum. Thank you to all who visited and gave their time during this incredibly uplifting weekend! Take a look at the photo gallery below.

From Dr. JJ Levenstein, a retired pediatrician and Momentum Board of Directors Chair:

“After attending the Abilities Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center, I felt grateful and inspired by the hundreds of entities there to support, innovate, and share Momentum’s mission. Our Refresh vehicles were a hit – one was in constant use on the showroom floor, and the other was visited by families, individuals in chairs, vendors, health care providers, caregivers, and other kind and interested folks. One family, after seeing us, exclaimed ‘Shoot, we changed our daughter in the car – we wish we’d known you were here!’ and 100 percent of visitors articulated just how important and vital Refresh vehicles will be once they are in widespread use. In many ways, Refresh is a vehicle of hope for those individuals who are yearning to go out, but then have no place to use the restroom.

Aragna Ker and his team had the opportunity to show the public all the adaptive tools they have constructed with 3D printers, and many folks wanted to buy them straight from the table. Momentum Creative’s artist Seong was present and drew a few portraits (including mine) with his beautiful right foot and adaptive pen holder. The public was enamored and encouraged to meet him.

All in all, the Expo was inspiring, generated hope and potential, and affirmed that humanity and kindness exist on a grand scale. I can’t wait to attend next year. In the meantime, we have work to do to build our Momentum and present more options, more tools, and more possibilities for those beautiful people we support.”

Art in the Park

Last week, our art instructor Guillermo took advantage of the beautiful weather to conduct an outdoor drawing class in a local park. The Chatsworth artists are hard at work honing their drawing technique skills in preparation for a upcoming collaborative project. Details to come!
