ICYMI Spotlight: A number of LA beaches add new mats for accessibility
Make sure you add a visit to Venice Beach to your summer plans. The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors installed a new mat in Venice that enables people who have difficulty crossing the sand the opportunity to get a close view of the whipping waves. The mat is made of a fine nylon mesh that allows sand to fall through making it easier for wheelchair users to navigate on the path.
Wheels for Humanity: Incredible people in amazing places
This week, our friends at Wheels for Humanity held a fascinating meet and great of two incredible people doing amazing work for people with disabilities in Indonesia. Sri Lestari and Bahrul Fuad gave insight to how they are working together to create a more inclusive world. We will soon share the virtual meet and greet in its entirety on our websites soon.
Apple announces new accessibility features
Apple announced new accessible features for people with disabilities using iPhones, Apple Watches, and iPad devices. The first update, SignTime launched this week to connect customers with on-demand sign language interpreters. The feature allows people to communicate with Apple Care and retail customer care workers more effectively using American Sign Language (ASL).
500 CEOs commit to prioritizing disability inclusion
The chief executives of Apple, Google, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, Sony and hundreds of other international organizations are committing to advance disability inclusion. Now, the collaborative says it has reached its goal of signing on 500 members, which collectively represent over $8 trillion in annual revenue and more than 20 million employees globally.
