It has proven to be a very busy two weeks to kick off May. As we round the corner to even warmer temperatures and pandemic news becomes more positive, it’s hard not to smile these days. The team at Momentum Creative has given us another reason to find joy with the new pieces of impressive artwork now on display both virtually and physically, plus we have news of the anticipated state recognition of Direct Support Professionals’ heroic work. Read more about those below.

ICYMI Spotlight: Blank Canvas 8 exhibit opens to a virtual crowd as we sit down with several curators
After months of hard work, the Blank Canvas 8 exhibit opened both in a virtual and physical format. The hybrid approach allows for people to visit several installations in Los Angeles. Momentum Creative has also carved out a section of the website for people to view the hundreds of pieces on display. Last week, we held an engaging panel discussion with several world-renowned artists and curators on how art is changing after the pandemic.
You can also purchase artwork on display by visiting the Shopify page here. The exhibit continues through June 26. Stay tuned for another panel discussion coming up in June!
This Week’s Must Read Story: Barbra’s Story
“It’s my nature.” Barbra knew she always had a passion for helping others. Momentum is proud to highlight the dedication of our staff. Barbra just recently celebrated five years as a crucial member of our organization. Her words give us motivation to be the change we want to see in the world. We are grateful for her heroic work. Read and watch her story here.
Rally Appreciation for Direct Support Professionals
The Legislature is making its way through its workload of bills and hearings. Assemblymember Chris Holden (L.A.) just received word that his Resolution, honoring our Direct Support Professionals will be heard on the Assembly floor during the week of May 17. This is our opportunity to reach out to all of our friends in the Assembly, letting them know that we are extremely proud of the dedicated workers in their districts who give so much every day, despite the extremely low pay they receive in return.
The brief message to them is simply — we are so happy that a Resolution honoring the heroic work of our DSPs is being introduced. We know it will recognize and inspire our amazing workers. We want your help in respectfully asking our local assembly members to also rise on the floor to speak in support of this Resolution and the importance of this issue. Make your voice heard here.

Disability and DEI: Overlooking a group that is everywhere
After a year where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) became a hot topic in the workplace, advocates for workers with disabilities express cautious optimism about the nation’s movement toward a more-inclusive workplace. There has been progress, they say, but disabled workers—many of whom have no outward sign of disability—can still feel overlooked or undervalued by the companies they work for.
