‘In Case You Missed It’ Highlights – 5/9

May 9, 2022

There are too many kindhearted and accurate quotes about mothers to pick just one. But this weekend, we thank all the mothers and those who are mothers at heart. We extend our sincere gratitude to moms who work at Momentum, use Momentum services to support their child, and advocate for children and adults with disabilities and medical conditions. You are all genuinely remarkable humans. May the world recognize the power of mothers and the strength they display each and every day as a parent. The month of May packs a ton of shout-outs; nurses, teachers, and the importance of mental health awareness. Read on to learn more.

Highlighting Momentum’s Teachers and Nurses

Teachers Appreciation Week, May 2 – 6

Allow us to brag about the incredibly talented individuals who create a profound effect on the people we support. Momentum salutes the dozens of teachers in our pediatric and adult services. From Early Head Start and our Leaps and Bounds program to our Momentum Creative art division, these educators inspire. We encourage you to reach out to the teacher who impacts the life of your child or family member and let them know they are making a difference. A card or a call can offer a sincere recognition of their impact. Want to send a virtual note? Drop a quick email here and we’ll send off your thoughtful words to them.

National Nurses Week, May 6 – 12

Everyone was forced to endure the challenges and hardships COVID-19 imposed on the world. For nurses, their tireless efforts continue to this day, ensuring the safety and well-being of the people we support at all ages. We’re grateful to have some of the brightest and most educated healthcare heroes wearing the Momentum logo. “These individuals answer the call to protect the health and wellness of our children and adults,” said Holly Nagatoshi, Chief Clinical Officer and registered nurse at Momentum. “Our wonderful team of registered nurses and licensed vocational nurses help support the best health possible for more than 180 people within Momentum. There is a wealth of experience and genuine care for the people they support.”

We Never Stop Learning: Momentum’s Person-Directed Planning Workshop
We certainly do not have all the answers to life’s challenges so our goal is to continue learning as a group. To end April, staff throughout our adult services attended our first workshop geared toward empowerment for the people Momentum supports.

We are implementing a person-directed philosophy across the entire organization. Using a person-directed approach, each individual receiving services from Momentum will be empowered to actively direct the development of their annual plan. The annual plan will meet the standards set forth in state and federal regulations.

Momentum’s approach to the planning process will actively support individuals with the expression of their needs, goals, desires, strengths, and preferences. People with disabilities deserve to live their best life. We are committed to helping them on their journey.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. During May, National Alliance on Mental Health joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health.

Each year they fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.

This year’s theme is “Together for Mental Health.”

You can share awareness or make your voice heard by learning more on NAMI’s website here.
