DSP Advisory Team

Direct Support Professional Advisory Team

We are committed to creating positive change at Momentum. Your input will be crucial.
Objective: Create transparent and constructive engagement between Direct Support Professionals and Momentum leaders

  1. Share frontline perspectives and opinions on disability services workforce issues and Momentum initiatives.
  2. Provide a critical and authentic advocacy voice in Federal and California state public policy efforts to address the DSP workforce crisis.
  3. Encourage, celebrate and recognize Momentum DSPs and provide an organization-wide network of DSP support.

    DSP Advisory Team Composition

    1. The team shall consist of six members but can be expanded at the discretion of Momentum leadership to better represent a balance between disability service lines.
    2. Potential applicants will submit an application that includes a recommendation from a colleague and will be selected by Momentum leadership. Selection will be based on the following criteria:
      a) Commitment to mission, vision and purpose of Momentum.
      b) Demonstrated and potential leadership ability.
      c) Performance as DSP.
      d) Answer to applicant questions and strength of recommendation.
    3. Each team member will serve a term of two years and will be eligible to serve one additional  term.
    4. 50% of the first class of team members will be chosen at random to serve a one-time initial term of three years to stagger future new membership and create continuity in team efforts moving forward.

    DSP Advisory Team Expectations

    1. There will be 4 scheduled meetings each year:
      a) Mid-January (virtual);
      b) Mid-April (in-person);
      c) Mid-July (virtual);
      d) Mid-October (in-person)
    2. In addition to regularly scheduled meetings the team will meet as needed to discuss issues or initiatives identified by Momentum leaders.
    3. Team members will receive their regular pay as well as a $500 yearly stipend.
    4. Team members must be able and willing to participate in face-to-face meetings as well as scheduled phone/video conferences.

    DSP Advisory Team Function

    1. The team will be asked to use their position and experience to develop ideas for Momentum leadership to address the DSP workforce recruitment and retention crisis, improve DSP job satisfaction and engagement, and suggest other actions that positively impact the DSP work environment
    2. The team will develop an internal leadership structure and operating format as well as a vision and team deliverables as well as develop an ongoing communication framework.
    3. Members of the team will be encouraged to be active participants on Momentum’s social media channels and Momentum’s VoterVoice advocacy site.
