‘In Case You Missed It’ Highlights – 5/23

‘In Case You Missed It’ Highlights – 5/23

May 23, 2022
June is just around the corner, but before we wrap up May, we want to share our gratitude and recognize the great accomplishments and impact our speech therapists create in children’s lives. Plus, we reveal the total amount donated at the Wheels in Motion gala thanks to the overwhelming generosity of those who attended in person and online. And our friends with Special Children’s League, South Bay and Psi Delta Sigma raised money to support our mission. Don’t forget, you can still sign up for Camp Escapades, which will return in August at the Rolling Hills Country Day Camp. Read on to learn more.

Record-Breaking Night: Wheels in Motion Gala

Momentum Wheels for Humanity is dedicated to expanding mobility and bringing change to people around the globe. The team helps provide resources in 70 countries. Hundreds gathered last weekend to lift up global distribution of those resources, including wheelchairs, to those in need. In total, the event tallied $662,878. Wow! We will have a full photo gallery up soon. In the meantime, check out videos of the organization’s impact here.

Reminder: Camp Escapades 2022 Registration Open

Hopefully you have started your countdown! We’re less than 80 days from the return of Camp Escapades, a fun-filled week of accessible activity for children that starts August 8. Registration is still open.

This week, we toured the beautiful campus at Rolling Hills Country Day School. We’re grateful they will be hosting us once again after a two year hiatus. As we march toward this premier event, we are recruiting volunteers. You can email us here if you’d like to be involved.

And we also have sponsorship level opportunities available for businesses and donors. This is a wonderful chance to help give these children a week to remember. If you would like to become a sponsor, email us here.

Camp Escapades offers children in our community a traditional summer camp experience that is inclusive of everyone’s needs.

Art Worth Owning: Rebuilt Gallery at Chatsworth
Did you know you can purchase artwork made by artists at Momentum? That’s what Cherylene Go did! She added to her collection with a purchase of Lauren Shapiro’s colorful, eye-catching artwork in Chatsworth. Thanks to the hard work from Aragna Ker and crew, the day program space has dozens of pieces on display. You can head over to the Momentum Creative website and pick out a piece for your home or office!

Recognizing Better Hearing & Speech Month
Each May, Better Hearing & Speech Month (BHSM) provides an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of ASHA members in providing life-altering treatment.

This year, the theme is “Connecting People.” Also part of the observance is encouraging families to seek an evaluation for a communication or swallowing disorder if they have concerns about a child, or another loved one. These disorders are common in children as well as in adults—yet many don’t know that they are treatable by speech-language pathologists. We thank our speech therapists at Momentum for their important and impactful work. Stay tuned as we highlight them in the coming weeks on social media.

Giving Back: Thank You Psi Delta Sigma & Special Children’s League – South Bay Committee
Psi Delta Sigma – Spirit of Giving

For more than 80 years, Psi Delta Sigma, a social group of women, has helped support our organization. In that time, their monumental efforts have helped raise more than $2.53 million. Their generosity and kindness added to that powerful total with the group’s annual Spirit of Giving luncheon. Fox LA journalist Gigi Graciette joined us for her ninth year as host. We appreciate everyone who attended! Learn more about Psi Delta Sigma.

Special Children’s League – South Bay Committee

On May 9th, the Special Children’s League South Bay Committee came together for their Annual Installation Luncheon. At the luncheon, the group presented Momentum with a check for $86,500. Momentum is extremely grateful for SCL South Bay’s alignment with our mission to provide greater inclusion for children and adults. Over the past 65 years, this passionate group of amazing women raised over $2 million for Momentum and Momentum Pediatric Therapy Network. Read more about them here.

If You Missed It: Paul’s Story
You likely saw his story in the spring issue of The Independent, but we encourage you to WATCH Paul’s story. We’re delighted Paul joined our facilities team earlier this year. His family’s bond to Momentum Pediatric Therapy Network is one that will never be broken.
